Under the guidance of the Expert Team on Sector-specific Climate Indices (ET-SCI) and as part of the Canada-funded Programme on the implementation of the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS) at the regional and national scales, a Workshop on `Enhancing Climate Indices for Sector-specific Applications in South Asia region' is being organized by World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The Workshop will be held at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, India, during 03 to 07 October 2016. The Workshop is aimed at enhancing the use of climate information in climate-sensitive sectors for climate risk management and adaptation, through interdisciplinary analysis and interpretation of sector-specific climate indices. The proposed workshop will bring together the experts from NMHSs and representatives of priority areas (agriculture and food security, water,health, energy and disaster risk reduction) from nine South Asian countries including India and also experts from world wide.


LOCAL TRANSPORT

Local transportation is being arranged by the hotel to pick up the participants from Pune airport and drop them back.
For those arriving at the Mumbai airport transfer to Pune will be arranged at the following rates:

DIRECTION

Pune has an international airport but has only limited international connections. Mumbai is the closest major international airport with convenient air, rail and road connections. Pune also has several air links with New Delhi, Bangalore and other major Indian cities. For those arriving via Mumbai, it is relatively more convenient to proceed to Pune by road rather than wait for several hours for the connecting flight.

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation has been provided free of charge to all participants in the Ramee Grand Pune, a 5 star Boutique hotel located in the heart of the city on Apte Road, Shivaji Nagar, close to all business hub. Breakfast, working lunch, transfer from Pune airport to the hotel, as well as transfer to IITM each day of the workshop will be also provided free of charge.

Most banks in the area also have ATMs which normally operate for 24 hours. Stand-alone ATMs can also be found at several locations around the city. Banks will also cash Traveller’sCheques although you will probably need to show some identification, such as a passport.The exchange rates from U.S. Dollar to Indian Rupee as of 14thJune 2016 is USD 1.00 = INR 67.16.

COMPUTER AND INTERNET ACCESS

The workshop will comprise key note lectures, plenary discussions and hands-on training on the application of ClimPACT software, therefore,all participants are strongly recommended to bring their own Wi-Fi/Ethernet-ready laptop for use with the practical exercises. Wireless internet access is available at the venue, and instructions to avail the facility will be provided at the time of the meeting.Internet access including wi-fi is complimentary at Ramee Grand Hotel.

Computer-connected projection facilities will be available for presentations, and white boards/flip charts and general office supplies will be available to facilitate discussions.
