A one day brainstorming meeting on Soil Moisture Measurements to Modeling and Scaling (SoM2Ms) initiative was held on 26 November 2024 at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM). Dr. R. Krishnan, Director, IITM, and Prof. Rajiv Sinha, IIT Kanpur chaired the meeting. The meeting saw participation by leading experts in soil moisture observation and modeling from institutions such as IMD, NCMRWF, NCESS, SAC, IISc, CDAC, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Roorkee, NIT Rourkela, IISER Bhopal, University of Delhi, University of Kashmir, BHU, SOA University, University of Texas, KBC-NMU etc. The discussions revolved around creating a pan India soil moisture data product incorporating a spectrum of observations with a focus on field scale measurements alongside generating assimilated data products. The meeting concluded with a field visit to IITM-COSMOS site by the attendees. Dr. Bhupendra Bahadur Singh and Dr. Mangesh Goswami from IITM Pune convened and coordinated this meeting.
