Commissioning of Fusion PTR-TOF-MS at IITM-New Delhi and C-ART, Visakhapatnam

The Fusion proton-transfer-reaction time-of-flight mass spectrometry (PTR-ToF-MS) has been installed and commissioned at the IITM branch office, New Delhi and Coastal Atmospheric Research Testbed (C-ART), Visakhapatnam during June 2026.

FUSION PTR-TOF-MS is a high-performance proton transfer reaction time-of-flight mass spectrometer designed for real-time trace gas analysis. This instrument is capable of measuring volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in real time with high temporal resolution. The Chemical Analysis of Aerosol Online (CHARON) module further enhances its capability by enabling real-time measurements of organic matter associated with sub-micron particulate matter. Consequently, the instrument can simultaneously measure both gas-phase VOCs and particle-phase organic compounds using the same platform, providing a comprehensive picture of atmospheric chemistry. This new addition of the observational system aims to support cutting-edge research on atmospheric chemistry, secondary organic aerosol, ozone formation, air quality, climate interactions, and photochemical processes.
