Bay of Bengal Monsoon Experiment

(BOBMEX)

Bay of Bengal Monsoon Experiment is a nationally coordinated multi-institutional and multi-disciplinary approach of observations augmenting conventional atmospheric network with data from special campaign using the observational platforms like ships, buoys and satellite to understand the ocean-atmosphere coupling in monsoon variability.

Intensive Observation Phase

This experiment addresses the following issues:

• Heat and Freshwater Balance of the Bay

• Coupling between the mixed layers of the atmosphere and the ocean

• Convective systems over the Bay

• Role of low frequency waves in the circulation of the Bay of Bengal
