About Pune

Pune, deriving its name from Punya Nagari (Sanskrit, "City of Virtue"), is the eighth largest metropolis in India and is situated 560 metres above sea level on the western margin of the Deccan plateau at the confluence of the Mula and Mutha rivers, and on the leeward side of the Western ghats (Sahyadri mountain range). The City is known for its educational facilities, its large student population, and a large number of quality, academic and research institutes and for that, it also referred to as the "Oxford of the East". Pune is considered as the cultural capital of state of Maharashtra and is known for various cultural activities like classical music, spirituality, theater, sports, and literature.


Pune has a tropical wet and dry climate and the weather during February is pleasant with average temperatures ranging between 13-33°C. The city is 220 km from Mumbai and is well connected by air, rail and road to Mumbai and other major cities of India.
