About Pune |
The city of Pune, located in the State of Maharashtra, is
situated on the foothills of the Sahyadri Mountain Ranges, also known as the
Western Ghats. Pune lies on lat. 18 30'N and long. 74 55'E at an altitude of
1500 ft., in the western part of the Indian peninsula.
The nearest city
to Pune is Mumbai, which is a capital city of Maharashtra. Pune can be reached
directly from the most of the other Indian cities by air, rail or road.
By Rail:
Mumbai-Pune railway line is about 192 kms
long. The distance from the Pune Railway Station to the IITM is around 8
kms.
By Road:
Mumbai-Pune road distance is about 170
kms, and there is an excellent expressway recently built. Most buses, taxis and
private cars from/to Mumbai travle through expressway.
By Air:
It takes half an hour to reach
Pune from Mumbai. IITM is located about 15 kms from the Lohegaon Airport, Pune.
Travelling in Pune:
Autorikshaws and bus services are
available from the Pune Railway Station. If you are new to Pune city, the most
convenient way of travelling is by metered autorickshaws. The present tariff is
Rs 7/- for first km and then Rs 6/- per km. If you have traveled 4.3 km, then the fare would be Rs (7+6*3+2)=27/-. The
appproximate day fare from Pune railway station is around Rs 50/-.
